The Roots sites are a popular destination for tourists in The Gambia. This is due to Alex Haley’s novel Rootsfrom the 1970s. “Roots” paints a dramatic picture of the slave trade of that time and the living conditions faced by the slaves. Wassu stone circles

In Gambian hinterland is the stone circle of investment Wassu , with 24 megaliths the largest and most famous stone circle formation Gambia.
